TCU-In Sydney students enroll directly in classes at the University of Sydney. The courses (units) are taught by University of Sydney faculty, and TCU students take classes alongside Australian and international students.
Students enroll in 24 Units of Credit (UOC) during their semester at the University of Sydney, which is equivalent to 16 TCU credits. Most courses are worth 6 UOC, or 4 TCU credits. Course selections must range between 12 and 18 TCU credit hours. Typically, TCU students take 4 classes at University of Sydney for 16 TCU hours.
The Spring Friendly is structured so that students take one course during the Summer Session and 3 courses during Semester 1.
Students receive TCU credit that applies towards the TCU GPA. As part of the application, students must have their courses pre-approved through the Credit Approval Process.
Internships:
Students may take part in internships at the University of Sydney. They are required to take the internship unit of study, which is 6 UOC or 4 TCU credits. Interns work a minimum of 120 hours. Placement is competitive and based on key performance indicators, such as GPA, prior academic studies, as well as the interests of the applicant and host. Though every effort will be made to place eligible applicants, placement is not guaranteed.
For more information about how credits work, see our Study Abroad Basics page.
While you are abroad, you are enrolled in 12 hours of coursework as a placeholder. Your classes will not be posted to your TCU recorded until 8 – 10 weeks after the semester ends, when the transcript from University of Sydney is sent. Once the Registrar receives your transcript, they will record the courses using the department codes on your Credit Approval Form (i.e., MARK, HIST) and a generic course code. Your dean’s office will apply these to your major / minor / electives / core as approved. All coursework, regardless of program type, counts for grades and will be included in your TCU GPA.
You must abide by the academic policies and regulations of the host university, including but not limited to policies on:
- Attendance / Absence policies
- Add / Drop process
- Grade Appeals
- Final Exam schedule
TCU cannot override host university policies and regulations.
Students are required to live in accommodations provided through TCU. Students live in a shared apartment. They will share a furnished double room with an ensuite bathroom. Their apartment will have a kitchen and a living room space. There is also the potential for studio apartments (where a student can live alone) but those are not guaranteed and come with an additional cost.
The apartment building also contains washers/dryers, study rooms, an outdoor courtyard with a grill, a gym with 24/7 access, a movie room, a social lounge, and concierge services at the front desk.
Any damages to housing will be posted to your TCU account upon return.
