Deciding to study abroad was not something I did lightly. I have never traveled outside of North America, but exploring new places and cultures has always been a dream of mine. When I learned I had the opportunity to study abroad, I knew it was a chance I could not pass up. It felt exciting, scary, and deeply meaningful all at once. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and hopeful for the growth that will come from it. This semester, I am hoping to learn more about who I am, build confidence in myself, and become more independent.
I chose Seville because I was drawn to the idea of living in a city that feels rich with history, culture, and beauty without being overwhelming. I love the idea of a walkable city where everyday life happens outdoors, and community feels close. I expect this program to push me out of my comfort zone in ways that are both challenging and rewarding, and I am excited to experience a new pace of life that values connection and presence.
One of my main goals during this experience is to improve my Spanish and fully immerse myself in Spanish culture. I want to challenge myself to be more independent by doing things on my own and learning to feel comfortable with being uncomfortable. I know that homesickness may be one of my biggest challenges, especially because I am very close to my friends and my mom. I am also nervous about navigating things like public transportation and unfamiliar routines. At the same time, I am excited for the confidence that will come once I figure these things out and realize I am capable of more than I thought.
This opportunity truly means the world to me because it is something I never imagined would be attainable. I am most looking forward to all aspects of this experience, including traveling, trying new foods, gaining independence, meeting new people, and even expressing myself in new ways, from personal style to daily routines. Studying abroad represents growth, courage, and possibility for me, and I am excited to see how this experience shapes me both personally and academically.
