Katie Putnam: Blog Post #1
My name is Katie Putnam, and I’m a junior studying strategic communication and sustainability at Texas Christian University. I am originally from the Bay Area in California, but I wanted to try something new for college, which is what brought me to Fort Worth, Texas. I have planned on studying abroad since I was a high school junior, and I am so excited my adventure abroad is almost here. I have never been out of the country, so I am looking forward to traveling to new cities like London, Paris, and Geneva. In addition to traveling, I also plan to explore my home city where I will be staying, Rome, Italy, and immerse myself in Italian culture. This year is especially special in Rome because it is the Jubilee, a major event in the Catholic church that happens every 25 years. I feel privileged to experience this important time in Rome and partake in the many celebrations throughout the city. Some goals I have set are to push myself outside my comfort zone, try new foods, and appreciate the little things. I am prepared to feel overwhelmed by living in a new city with an unfamiliar culture, but I think this experience will allow me to grow and become more comfortable with change. I can’t wait to share more about my experiences in Rome!
