Imani Mogaka – Blog Post #1

Pr-Departure:

Hello everyone! I’m Imani Mogaka, a rising Senior at Texas Christian University, pursuing a degree in Strategic Communication with a minor in Communication Studies. Born and raised in Texas, I’ve been fortunate to grow up in a vibrant community enriched by Spanish-speaking cultures, alongside diverse communities that have shaped my worldview. With roots in both African American heritage and Kenyan ancestry, I’ve always cherished exploring different cultures and connecting with people from all walks of life.

Embarking on this study abroad journey marks a significant milestone for me. Prior to this experience, I hadn’t ventured beyond the U.S. by myself, making this trip a gateway to broaden my perspectives and embrace global citizenship. I’m eager to immerse myself in Spanish language and culture, aiming to enhance my proficiency and deepen my appreciation for cultural diversity.

Looking ahead, my career aspirations are deeply rooted in donor and client relations, bridging non-profits with corporate resources to empower communities. This journey isn’t just about academic growth; it’s about discovering new dimensions of personal and professional development. I anticipate this experience will cultivate empathy and resilience, proving that college is indeed a transformative phase where dreams can take flight.

I am grateful for the financial and practical support that TCU has given me throughout my college experience as a Dean’s Scholar and that it has even allowed me to study abroad.

Join me as I document this exciting chapter of my life, sharing insights and reflections on how this experience shapes my path forward. Together, let’s embrace the opportunities to learn, grow, and inspire each other.

With gratitude,

Imani Mogaka
