Alexa Madrid: Blog Post #1

Hi everyone! My name is Alexa Madrid, and I am a rising Senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with an Emphasis in Acting.
Studying abroad was something I always knew I wanted to do while at TCU, but because of the requirements of my major and my role as a TCU Spirit member (a TCU Ranger), I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it. When my department announced a 2-week study abroad in London over the summer, I instantly texted my mom and started planning  for the experience.
The study abroad I chose to attend is called Modern Trends in Theatre – London and aims to teach Theatre TCU students a deeper understanding and appreciation of how Theatre has helped shape society throughout the ages and across different cultures, specifically in London! I am really excited to see all the museums, shows, churches, and tours that will not only let me explore the arts but also European history as a whole.
Going into study abroad, I am a bit nervous on top of all the excitement. This will be my first time overseas ever! So, a 9-hour flight to a new country, with new food and new people, sounded both thrilling and daunting. To help with the nerves, I set one major goal for myself: to go in with an open heart and an open mind. To be excited about all the cultures, people, places, and food that I get to experience in a country that I might not be able to visit for a little while.
