When I talked to those in my major about it, I wasn’t shocked to find out most of them weren’t really interested in going abroad. For us computer science majors, finding short programs that would cater to our studies is difficult and deciding to go the study abroad route usually meant accepting that you’d have to take an elective credit rather than a major related course. I didn’t allow this to dampen any interest I had in going abroad though, since for me the appeal had always been in getting an opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and finding ways to bridge connections between what I already know and what I learn while I’m there.
I have high expectations in gaining new perspectives on what daily life looks like for people in Japan. While I’m there I’d like to assimilate as much as possible with the citizens by learning and adjusting to their societal customs since I know people have unspoken rules they abide by in Japan like not eating while walking or walking on one side strictly for ease of mobility when going around. It’ll definitely be fun getting used to the different rules over there. Overall, I’m excited for what’s to come and so grateful for this opportunity!
