TCU contracts with International SOS (SOS) to provide worldwide travel, medical and security advice and services for all TCU faculty, staff, and students traveling abroad under the auspices of TCU. The services provided by SOS range from telephone advice and referrals to full-scale evacuation by private air ambulance. Detailed information about the services is on the TCU SOS website (log on to http://my.tcu.edu and look under Helpful Links for International SOS).
To ensure coverage, please be sure to do the following prior to departure:
- Go to the TCU SOS website by logging on to http://my.tcu.edu and looking under Helpful Links for International SOS). Complete the Emergency Record on that page.
- Contact Tracy Rundstrom Williams, 817-257-7473, for a membership card, or download a card from the TCU SOS website. Carry this card, which contains the TCU group membership number and the Alarm Center phone numbers, at all times while abroad.
- Confirm that your personal health insurance covers you while abroad.
Before and during your time abroad, we advise all travelers to review up-to-date reports on safety and security, health issues, medical care and vaccination requirements on the SOS website (log on to http://my.tcu.edu and look under Helpful Links for International SOS).
Specifically, on the right side of the page under Medical Tools, select your country(ies) from the Country Guides list and you can find the following information:
- Health care standards and practices in the country
- Health concerns and tips for staying healthy in the country
- Vaccinations recommended and required for the country
- Emergency numbers (fire, police, ambulance)
- Dialing codes
- Voltage and electrical system differences
On the right side of the page under Security Tools, select your country(ies) from the Security Reports list and you can find the following information:
- General safety tips for the country(ies) you’re traveling to
- Current security issues in the country or region
- Information about airport security, immigration, and customs for the country
- Calendar of holidays and events, including days and events which might cause security issues
- Money
- Cultural etiquette
You are also welcome to call SOS at any time prior to or while abroad for advice, information, or to use any of the medical, security, or travel services. The Philadelphia Center (1-800-523-6586 or 1-215-942-8226) is the primary contact, but any of the SOS Alarm Centers can assist you immediately during an emergency and will notify TCU of your situation.
Please be aware that some of SOS’s services carry additional charges. If you request a service which has an additional charge, SOS will inform you in advance and will require a credit card number in order to activate the service.
SOS is NOT health insurance. Confirm with your own personal health insurance provider that your policy cover you while abroad. Requests for reimbursement for medical care received while abroad should be submitted to your own health insurance provider.
If you have any questions about SOS services and coverage, please feel free contact Tracy Rundstrom Williams at 817-257-7473.
